Chartered accountant for consulting & professional services

CHARTERED ACCOUNTANT · CONSULTING & PROFESSIONAL SERVICES

The chartered accountant for consultants and professional-services firms

Consultants, freelancers, knowledge workers and agencies: we understand the reality of your business — back-to-back engagements, client follow-up and admin that eats into your billable time. You design and deliver your services; we take care of your entire accounting.

The accounting challenges of your business

A service business has few fixed costs, but very real optimisation levers and some structuring choices. Here are the areas where we support you day to day.

🧾

Business expenses to optimise

Travel to client sites, software subscriptions, IT equipment, training, home-office costs: so many deductible expenses that are too often overlooked. We identify every legitimate cost to reduce your taxable base while always staying within the rules.

📊

VAT on your services

For a service business, French VAT is due on payments received, not on invoicing. That rule changes everything for your cash flow: we calibrate your VAT scheme and file at the right pace so you never advance VAT you haven’t yet collected.

⚖️

The right legal structure

Sole trader, single-member LLC (EURL) or simplified joint-stock company (SASU): your structure drives your taxation, your social protection and the amount that actually ends up in your pocket. We compare the figures for each scenario based on your turnover and goals so you can decide with full clarity.

💸

Uneven cash flow

Between two engagements, payments come in slowly while your costs keep running. Client payment terms, gaps between contracts, seasonality: we set up monitoring that anticipates the lean periods and secures your business all year round.

What we bring you

Our role is simple: free you from admin so your energy goes where it creates value — with your clients.

Why entrust us with your accounts

What we hear most often from the consultants and freelancers we support.

😰

“Admin isn’t my job”

Accounting and tax obligations stress me out and cost me a huge amount of time. I need a firm that takes it all off my hands and explains, in plain terms, exactly where I stand — no jargon, no nasty surprises.

⏱️

“My time is worth more elsewhere”

Every hour spent on my accounts is an hour I can’t bill. By outsourcing, I win back time for my engagements and my prospecting: the support pays for itself.

🛡️

“I want to be sure I’m compliant”

The fear of a mistake or an audit follows me everywhere. Having a chartered accountant registered with the Institute validate my filings finally gives me the certainty that everything is watertight.

Frequently asked questions

Which legal structure should I choose when starting out as a consultant?

There’s no single answer: it all depends on your forecast turnover, your need for social protection and your appetite for tax optimisation. The sole-trader (micro-entreprise) scheme is simple and suited to a modest start; the EURL and SASU are a better fit as soon as your income rises or you incur expenses. At a first meeting, we compare the figures for your situation and recommend the structure that maximises your net income while securing your social cover.

How does VAT work on professional services?

Unlike the sale of goods, VAT on a service is due when payment is received — that is, when your client pays you, not when you issue the invoice. In practice, you only hand over the VAT collected once the money is in, which protects your cash flow. Below the thresholds you can benefit from the VAT exemption and invoice without VAT. We determine the most relevant scheme and file your returns at the right pace.

Which business expenses can I deduct?

In principle, any expense incurred in the interest of your business is deductible: travel and assignment costs at client sites, IT equipment, subscriptions to professional software, home-office costs, training, documentation, professional entertainment or membership fees to professional bodies. The golden rule is being able to justify the business nature of each expense. We tell you what qualifies, what doesn’t, and how to keep the receipts that secure your deductions.

Sole trader or company: which to choose?

The sole-trader scheme is appealing for its simplicity, but it doesn’t let you deduct your actual expenses and caps your turnover. As soon as your costs become significant or your income climbs, a company (EURL or SASU) is often more advantageous: deduction of real expenses, optimisation between salary and dividends, and a stronger image with larger clients. The right moment to switch depends on your numbers. We run a personalised comparison to save you from paying too much tax or too many contributions.

How do I manage irregular cash flow between engagements?

Alternating busy periods and lulls is inherent to consulting. The key is anticipation: we build a cash-flow forecast that projects your receipts and costs over several months, factoring in your clients’ payment terms. We also help you smooth your pay, build a safety buffer and set up effective chasing on overdue invoices. That way you keep visibility even when activity fluctuates.

How are you paid?

We work on a fixed fee, agreed in advance based on the volume and nature of your business. You know exactly what you pay, with no surprise charge for every question. The fee covers bookkeeping, filings and day-to-day support. At our first conversation — free and with no obligation — we assess your needs and offer you a clear proposal tailored to your service business.
